S.A.M. privacy policy

Antumbra Ltd makes S.A.M. and is responsible for your information under UK data protection law. We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office.

What stays on your computer

Your progress, upgrades, achievements, run history and settings are saved on your computer and nowhere else. There are no accounts and no sign in, and we have no servers that receive your saves, so deleting the game's save folder deletes them.

The game also writes a technical log to the same folder, to help diagnose problems. It stays there unless you choose to send it with feedback (see below).

Gameplay stats, if you allow them

The first time you start S.A.M., the ship's AI asks whether the game may share anonymous gameplay stats. Nothing is sent unless you choose Allow, and nothing is selected for you. This applies to the full game, the demo and playtest builds.

If you allow it, the game sends events about how runs go: which deck you reached, when and how S.A.M. was destroyed, the weapons and upgrades you took, how long runs last, the settings you use, and error reports if the game crashes. We use them to balance the game and to fix what goes wrong.

They are collected for us by GameAnalytics. Alongside the events, GameAnalytics receives your computer's operating system and version, its make and model where available, the game's version, a session number, and a random identifier the game creates for your install. GameAnalytics also works out a rough country from your IP address. None of it is linked to your name, email or anything that says who you are.

The legal basis for this is your consent. You can withdraw it any time: open Settings in the game and turn gameplay stats off, and nothing more is sent.

How GameAnalytics handles the stats

GameAnalytics processes the stats on our behalf and only on our instructions. It keeps raw events and identifiers for 12 months, then deletes them or keeps only anonymous totals.

GameAnalytics stores data with cloud providers, so it may be processed outside the UK, for example in the EU or the US. Where it is, it is protected by the safeguards UK law requires, such as standard contractual clauses.

Because the stats do not say who you are, we usually cannot pick out yours to show or delete them, but they expire on their own. GameAnalytics explains how it handles data at gameanalytics.com/trust.

Send feedback

The title screen and the pause menu have a Send feedback option. It sends only what you type, plus the run's details if you tick the box to attach them: a summary of the run, your settings, the game's version and operating system, and the last lines of the technical log.

Feedback goes to Antumbra's own small server, hosted by Amazon Web Services in London. It does not store your IP address. We keep each message for 12 months so we can fix what it reports, then delete it. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in fixing the problems players send us.

Please do not put your name, email or other personal details in the text. If you would like a reply, email us instead.

Buying the game

S.A.M. will be sold through these stores. Each one handles your payment and account under its own privacy policy, and we never see your card details:

If you email us

We use your email address and what you tell us only to reply and to fix the problem. We keep the conversation for as long as it is useful for that, and delete it when asked.

Children

S.A.M. is an action game for a general audience. It is not made for children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to see the personal information held about you, have it corrected or deleted, limit or object to its use, take a copy with you, and withdraw consent you have given.

Gameplay stats, feedback and emails are the only information we hold, and the stats and feedback do not say who you are. Email us if you are not sure where to start and we will help. We reply within one month.

If you are unhappy with how your information is handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date at the top. If a change affects what is collected, the game will ask again before sending anything new.
